The challenge of 'working on' new job opportunities

The term "disruptive" has spread to many areas in the 21st century: the internet has been one of the major disruptive changes, as has the pandemic or Chat GPT. Currently, disruption is synonymous with AI, and one must 'work on' new job opportunities.

Madrid, November 24.

Before providing some insights on how to overcome the fear of disruptive changes, it is essential to highlight that since the beginning of this decade, we operate in a BANI environment: Britte (fragile), Anxious (anxiety), N (non-linear), and Incomprehensible In this framework, pessimists contemplate AI as a weapon of mass destruction of jobs, while optimists already envision new job opportunities.

But AI has come to stay in all sectors and functional areas of the company. As it is evident, it will allow eliminating more routine work and freeing up time for more creative tasks and those where "the human" can never be replaced by a robot. There are jobs where the margin for proactivity is nonexistent, but in many other cases, professionals can - and should - drive new ways of working, using their intelligence to improve the quality of life for others, reduce inequalities, etc. A BANI environment provides the right conditions to constantly generate new ways of creating value.

Healthy or sick algorithms

This is applicable to all areas and processes of companies to reduce costs and generate new growth opportunities. For example, AI assistance is being applied very successfully in healthcare because it provides very precise results in tasks such as diagnosis based on images, predicting intervention outcomes, or recommending treatments.

However, as in all areas, there is also the risk that it generates biased predictions because, to identify patterns and offer predictions, algorithms rely on historical data, and they are not always selected with the required quality. The same happens in reality: a recent study showed that when women around 45 years old went to the doctor with symptoms of emotional distress, doctors recommended an anxiolytic; if men of the same age went, the prescription was to undergo some cardiac tests, for example, to rule out that stress was playing a trick on them.

Bajo este titular –"Technology: the best ally of staff in a hotel",three hoteliers were in dialogue this week on the program Disruptors and Innovators, de El Español, que dirige Chema Nieto y que se emite a través de LinkedIn. [Translated with AI]”.
